When I was a kid we spent Halloween on Wimbledon Common roasting marshmallows over a completely illegal fire

and drinking mead to toast the pagan sabbath. As I got older and picked up some weird friends in York this tradition changed slightly, we'd still roast marshmallows over a fire but only in between beers at the annual halloween party

. Halloween now is less about the crossing over of souls or the cycles of life but more about who can come up with the most inventive costume. By the end of each party everyone is wearing something from everybody else's costume and the characters we assumed got weirder and weirder every year (for example last year I went as my dad to scare my brothers, nobody else got it but their faces were worth it). Anyway the whole point of this story is those monumental parties have now come to an end and I thought I would share with you my creations for the very last Halloween party in York

Me as Mystique - my costume is made from lots of white pvc and papier maché for the belt:

as Wolverine - I made his claws with cardboard and garden wire:

and my mum as Max from where the wild things are - I made her onsey out of curtain lining and the tail from nylon wool, her sceptre is papier maché and the crown is of course sparkly cardboard

I have to say that I think she is awesome for agreeing to dress up like that. My little brother was supposed to be Max but he wanted to go as Kakehara from Ichi the Killer instead:

And finally, I had no hand in this but I have to show it anyway because the costume is awsome and completely handmade - My older brother as Ronald McDonald and yes that is a baby burger he is carrying:

So I hope you all had a good halloween and got to dress up too

Blessed be (as the old pagans used to say)

Wybie Lovat: Caroline what?
Coraline Jones: Coraline. Coraline Jones.
Wybie Lovat: Hm. It's not real scientific, but I heard an ordinary name like Caroline can lead people to have ordinary expectations about a person.

All in all it's not so bad.
